How to Download YouTube Videos on Your Phone in High Quality
Do you want to watch a YouTube video later when you're offline? The most reliable way to download a YouTube video is to save it for offline viewing using YouTube Premium, but there are a few other ways you can save videos to your mobile device. If you don't subscribe to YouTube Premium, you should only download videos that you own or that fall under the Creative Commons license. This wikiHow article shows you easy ways to download YouTube videos on iPhone, iPad, and Android.
"You may access Content for your information and personal use solely as intended through the provided functionality of the Service and as permitted under these Terms of Service. You shall not download any Content unless you see a 'download' or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content."

Content on YouTube that is permissible to download includes public domain videos that aren't copyrighted, clips covered by a Creative Commons license, and homemade videos that friends and family have shared with you (and don't mind you downloading).
The process for each platform will differ, but there are a few common steps for downloading YouTube videos without signing up to the site's Premium service. The process will always essentially involve these steps:
Downloading YouTube videos on your iPhone and iPad is a bit tricky, since Apple polices the apps available in its store. If you jailbreak your phone, there are more options, but if you don't want to go that route, here's the best and easiest way.
One easy way is to use the screen capture tool built into macOS. It won't be high quality but it's something. Just press Command + Shift + 5 to bring up the screen recording options. You can select a window or record the entire screen, and change the options to include audio from your Mac's microphone.
The best program for downloading YouTube videos on Mac in high quality formats is 4K Video Downloader. It's free for up to 30 downloads a day, or you can upgrade to one of its premium plans. The software can download videos in up to 8K quality and in a variety of formats. And 4K Video Downloader can also grab entire YouTube playlists.
Downloading YouTube videos with an Android app from the Google Play store is going to be impossible, because Google prohibits such tools. However, you can get a YouTube downloader on your phone or tablet by installing a APK file from outside the Play store, like our top suggestion TubeMate. Here's how to use it.

If you're in one of the countries/regions listed above, you can download certain videos from the YouTube mobile app to watch offline. These videos will be available for up to 48 hours. After that, you'll need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network every 48 hours. Reconnecting will allow the app to check for changes to the video or its availability.
By default, videos are downloaded over both Wi-Fi and mobile data. To allow videos or playlists to be downloaded over mobile networks, tap your profile picture Settings Background & downloads and turn off Download over Wi-Fi only.
Set the default quality of your downloads by going to Settings Background & downloads Download quality. Higher-quality videos may consume more data, take longer to show in the Downloads section, and take up more space on your device.
To view how much space you have left on your device for downloadable content, tap your profile picture Settings Background & downloads in the app. If you have less than 5% of storage space remaining on your device, you can't download more videos. To free up extra space, try removing existing downloads or other content stored on your device.
You must be signed in to download videos. Videos or playlists that are added to Downloads can be played while signed in with the same account. Some features, like commenting and liking, are only available when your device is connected to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.
If you're in for a long flight or headed somewhere without an internet connection, you may want to download a few videos. And while it's easier to download Netflix videos than ones on YouTube, the process isn't terribly complex. There are two ways to download videos: through the YouTube app or with a third-party tool. Downloading through the YouTube app requires a YouTube Premium subscription, while using third-party tools are free, but come with the cost of convenience and reliability.
Downloading a video through the official YouTube app is permitted by YouTube's Terms of Service as the video cannot be watched outside the app, and you have no access to the file. However, if you download a YouTube video with a third-party tool you may fall afoul of YouTube's Copyright and Free Use policy, which can lead to account suspension.
Downloading a video through YouTube requires a YouTube Premium subscription if you do not live in one of these countries. This subscription costs $11.99/month for individuals or $17.99 for up to 5 people in the same household and includes a wide range of benefits like a subscription to YouTube Music. Whether you need a Premium subscription or not, the process is exactly the same. While this is the easiest way to download a YouTube video, you won't be able to access your video outside the app; a third-party tool is necessary for this.
Once downloaded, the Download button will turn into a black tick and read Downloaded. Downloaded videos can be accessed in the Home tab of the YouTube app when offline.
TubeMate is one of many services that allow you to download YouTube videos. However, if you choose not to use TubeMate, be aware that not all these services are trustworthy and can put you at risk of downloading malware.
You can access your downloaded video in two ways. Either open the TubeMate app and tap the Downloaded button at the bottom of your screen, or you can find the video in your phone's storage. They'll be located in Files by Google in Internal Storage > Video.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable third-party tool for downloading YouTube videos on a Chromebook. Websites that provide a download tool do exist, but they are often subject to legal takedowns by Google. The safest option to download the video via a third party is to use the TubeMate method outlined above, then transfer the downloaded file to your Chromebook.
Like Android, downloading a video through YouTube on Chromebook requires a Premium subscription. We've used the official YouTube app for this walkthrough, but the steps to download a video using Chrome are nearly identical.
You can access your downloaded videos by clicking your profile icon in the top right of the screen, then clicking Downloads in the menu. Downloaded videos can be deleted by clicking the three-button menu to the right of the video, then clicking Delete from Downloads.
Downloading a YouTube video follows the same steps for Windows 10 and Windows 11. There are plenty of programs that offer the ability to download videos, but 5KPlayer is a great balance between ease of use, download speed, and video quality. Don't be alarmed if it asks for your name and email, this is not required for downloading YouTube videos.
To download a YouTube video on macOS, you'll need 5KPlayer, just like Windows. Installing it follows the same steps as the Windows installation, and remember not to enter your name and email address as this is not necessary for downloading YouTube videos.
Downloading a YouTube video on iOS is a fairly convoluted process, however, these steps will walk you through the process. After downloading the video, you have the optional step of moving it to your Photos app. This is not necessary, but it will make the video quicker to access later.
Internet connection or not, there's still a way to watch your favorite YouTube videos whenever. Right now, YouTube Premium is the safest and quickest way to download a YouTube video, but there are third-party options available.
Before you go on a downloading frenzy using a third-party app, be aware that doing so can put you at risk for malware or a straight-up ban from YouTube. If you're dead set on using a third-party app, a Chromebook with plenty of storage is the perfect companion for a long flight or subway ride.
You can stream billions of videos on YouTube, but sometimes, you might just want to download some for offline viewing. Downloading your own videos is easy, of course. But what if you want to save other creators' videos to watch offline later? There's a one-click Download button to do that, but you need to subscribe to YouTube Premium for it to work.
YouTube Premium is the easiest way to download a YouTube video, as there is a direct Download option. Though YouTube Premium costs $12 a month, it allows you to watch ad-free videos and gives you access to YouTube Music and YouTube Kids. Read our full YouTube Premium review to learn more.
Like downloading a video from YouTube Premium, downloading songs from YouTube Music doesn't store a .mp3 or similar file on your mobile device, so you can't easily use that downloaded music file in a different app. It's stored in the YouTube Music app's cache. There are some ways to convert these music files, though.
